City of Grand Terrace Transactions and Use Tax Measure

Measure N would add Chapter 3.32 to the City of Grand Terrace Municipal Code, establishing a one percent (1.00%) transactions and use tax (commonly known as a “sales tax”) for City general fund purposes.

This measure requires approval by a majority of voters voting on the measure to pass.

Fiscal Impact: Measure N would generate approximately $1,200,000 annually in revenue.

Background

The current sales tax rate in the City of Grand Terrace is 7.75%, all of which goes to the State and County Governments.

Proposal

If approved, Measure M would establish a 1.00% transaction and use tax (sales tax) for City general fund purposes. This would raise the overall sales tax rate to 8.75% while providing 1% solely for local uses.

Food purchased as groceries and prescription medication, among other common essentials, would not be taxed under the Measure. Visitors to Grand Terrace would bear part of the tax burden imposed by their local activities and thus contribute to the City’s ability to maintain general public services they use while visiting.
