City of Highland Park Transactions and Use Tax Measure

Measure E would impose a 1% transactions and use tax (sales tax) to fund police, fire, and emergency services, and repair critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and interchanges, including the 5th Street Corridor Interchange.This measure requires approval by a majority of voters voting on the measure to pass.

Fiscal Impact: Measure E is expected to raise approximately $6.35 million in local revenue.

Background

The total sales tax rate paid in the City of Highland, which includes the sales tax collected for the State of California, San Bernardino County, and other public agencies, is currently 7.75%.

Proposal

If approved, Measure E would increase the City’s existing sales tax rate by 1%, or 1 cent, on every dollar of taxable sales of goods in the City, and on the taxable storage, use or consumption of goods purchased in the City. The total sales tax rate paid in the City would be 8.75%. The Sales Tax Ordinance would remain effective until ended by the voters.
